It’s time to return to 1996! Showtime has released the official trailer for the second season of Yellowjackets, the Emmy-nominated series which follows a group of teenage soccer players stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash in 1996 while also showcasing their lives in 2021.
The first season of the show, which concluded in January last year, met with critical acclaim and garnered huge viewership. The series has a 100% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which adds to the excitement for the second season.
Yellowjackets Season 2 Trailer Teases Another Suspenseful Adventure
The trailer shows young Vanessa telling her stranded friends, “Once upon a time, there was a place called the wilderness. It was beautiful, but it was also violent and misunderstood. And it waited and waited to befriend whoever arrived.”
The visuals then shift to snowy landscapes and scenery, suddenly interrupted by violence, cult rituals and death scenes. The adult women are seen still being haunted by their tragic past as Misty asks the group, “The Lottie who was committed to a mental institution in Switzerland, Lottie?” asks the group.
The secrets of the past also start to unravel in the trailer. The visual ends with the young girls carrying the dead body of one of their friends. Yellowjackets season 2 is set to premiere on Showtime on March 24.
The trailer also features a cover of No Doubt’s Just a Girl by Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine. “I’m such a huge fan of Yellowjackets and this era of music, and this song especially had a huge impact on me growing up, so I was thrilled to be asked to interpret it in a ‘deeply unsettling’ way for the show,” Welch said of the song.
The Second Season Takes Place Two Months After Season 1 Finale
The second season will pick up two months after the events of the first season’s finale. Creators have revealed that tensions between the girls are further going to escalate in the new season. The official description for season 2 reads, “In the face of their deepening hunger and fear, the tension among our Yellowjackets has only grown worse.”
“The harsh conditions of winter are intensifying by the day, and the psyches of our survivors are deteriorating just as fast. Threatened by the darkness of the wilderness— and the haunting memories of it in the present— our former state champs will be forced to make impossible decisions.”
“As they confront the horrible truth of what survival entails, the real nightmare for each of them will be to figure out who they are— and what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive,” it reads further.
Some New Faces Have Joined the Cast in Season 2
