A month after the release of the first part of You season 4, the remaining episodes of the highly successful thriller show have arrived on Netflix. While the first part focussed on a whodunit plot and ended with the reveal of the murderer’s identity, the second part took the audience through a number of unexpected twists and turns.
Fans who have binged on all the episodes have now started waiting for another exciting season of the show. But has You been renewed for season 5 on Netflix, and when will it premiere? Continue reading to find out.
Will You Return with Season 5 on Netflix?
Netflix has not yet officially announced the renewal of the show for a fifth season. However, audiences need not worry as the streaming platform usually takes a few weeks or months before confirming the continuation of a series. Moreover, the fourth season of the show wasn’t billed as the last one, so another season can surely be expected.
While Netflix has become famous for canceling series abruptly, You’s cancellation is highly unlikely as it is one of the most-watched shows on the platform. In a recent interview, showrunner Sera Gamble also teased that there is still a lot left to be told in the show.
“We have an idea for season five that we’re excited about. It was never anyone’s intention to run this one into the ground. When we’re done, we’ll be done. And we’ll pack it up. Even in the early conversations with Penn, the idea was not to crank out episodes forever; it’s to feel like we have told the complete story,” she said.
When will You Season 5 Premiere on Netflix?
The fourth season was announced by Netlifx in October 2021 and was released around 16 months later, in February 2023. If the same trend is followed, and if the show is renewed in the upcoming weeks, season 5 can be expected to premiere by late 2024.
The number of episodes in the upcoming season is not confirmed yet. And it also remains to be seen if it will be divided into parts like the previous installment. The show’s lead star Penn Badgley also shared his thoughts on a potential fifth season in a podcast.
He said, “I think if there’s another season, I think it’s only going to be one. I think — this is my understanding, but I don’t know, I really don’t know. But I know that everybody concerned, from the top on down, nobody wants this show to become tired. That’s when Joe is the most disgusting. That’s when the show stops having the intelligence that it has.”
You Season 5 Potential Storyline
By the end of season 4, Joe Goldberg has wrapped up his life in London and is back in New York after embracing all his characteristics and dark past. Showrunner has now revealed that they are planning to conclude the stalker’s arc with ‘some sort of justice.’
“The conversation we have among the writers, between Greg and I, and a lot with Penn is about the fact that it would be nice to end his arc with some form of justice. Guys like this don’t usually see a lot of justice from the world. That’s challenging to plot,” said Gamble
She added, “How does Joe Goldberg go down in a world where he’s been branding people with bricks in broad daylight for years? And he’s cute! And he gets away with it. The deeper question that we frequently pitch in the writers’ room is, What’s real justice? What would hurt him the most?”
