Josh Freese is the new drummer of the rock band Foo Fighters! The famed band announced Freese as their new drummer during their Preparing Music for Concerts livestream event on Sunday.
The news of Josh Freese, being the new drummer of Foo Fighters comes a year after their longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away. The livestream was recorded at Studio 606, and it consisted of funny cameos by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, and Tool’s Danny Carey.
As per a report by Variety, Josh said the words “Um, excuse me” and when he came on the screen it became clear that he’s taken on the gig. As of this moment, it’s unknown whether Freese is a permanent member of the band or a temporary one who will be filling in for the live shows.

Josh Freese who comes from a family of musicians was born on December 25, 1972, in Orlando, Florida, U.S.A. So, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that music runs in his genes. His father was the director at the Walt Disney Company, meanwhile, his mom was a trained classical pianist.
Freese began playing drums at the young age of 8. He started playing professionally at 12. From there on, he didn’t look back. Up until now, he has released many solo projects where he has been credited as a singer-songwriter and instrumentalist.

variety of playing music with different people in different situations. Maybe if I was the drummer for Muse, I could say, ‘Ok, I’m successful enough where I don’t have to do anything else except concentrate on my band… Being in just one band…I honestly fantasize about that sometimes. I’m only human.”
In December 2022, Foo Fighters announced they will continue without Taylor Hawkins
On December 31, 2022, the band put out a statement that read, “As we say goodbye to the most difficult and tragic year that our band has ever known, we are reminded of how thankful we are for the people that we love and cherish most, and for the loved ones who are no longer with us.”
The Grammy-winning rock band further added, “Foo Fighters were formed 27 years ago to represent the healing power of music and a continuation of life. And for the past 27 years our fans have built a worldwide community, a devoted support system that has helped us all get through the darkest of times together. A place to share our joy and our pain, our hopes and fears, and to join in a chorus of life together through music.”

The band members went on to say, “Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were – and without Taylor, we know that we’re going to be a different band going forward.”
Foo Fighters concluded the statement by stating how much Taylor meant to the fans and promised, “We know that when we see you again – and we will soon – he’ll be there in spirit with all of us every night.”
How did Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins die?
Taylor Hawkins who was the longtime drummer of the band Foo Fighters passed away in March 2022. At the time of his death, he was 50 years old. He took his last breaths in Bogota, Colombia, where the group was scheduled to perform. He was found dead in a hotel room.
The sad news of Taylor’s demise was confirmed by his band. Then, the band issued a statement on their Twitter page that read, “The Foo fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live with us forever.”
It further read, “Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time”. He was with the band for more than 20 years.
Then, many stars expressed their condolences on social media. Queen’s Brian May took to his Instagram page and wrote, “No. It cannot be. Heartbroken. Taylor, you were family to us. Our friend, our brother, our beloved child.”
Mike Portnoy tweeted, “In absolute shock & disbelief over the passing of Taylor Hawkins. I’ve always had so much admiration for him. Amazing drummer & a gem of a guy who was always fun to be around. I’m absolutely gutted…my deepest condolences to his bandmates & family ???????? #RIPTaylorHawkins”
Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello added, “God bless you Taylor Hawkins. I loved your spirit and your unstoppable rock power. Rest In Peace my friend.” Elijah Wood penned, “Ugh man. Sad to hear about Taylor Hawkins. Love to his family and friends.”
