When Calls the Heart has officially been renewed by Hallmark for an eleventh season, even before the premiere of season 10. The network announced the update on Wednesday and also revealed the release date for the upcoming 10th season.
The series starring Erin Krakow is one of the highest-watched shows on basic cable and is the longest-running scripted show on Hallmark. It follows the story of a young teacher who moves from her high-society life to a small coal-mining town for her first assignment.
When Calls the Heart Renewed for Season 11 Ahead of Season 10 Premiere
When Calls the Heart season 11 will feature 12 episodes, just like the previous three seasons. Additionally, it was announced that season 10 will premiere on Hallmark on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 9/8c.
Announcing the development, Lisa Hamilton Daly, Hallmark EVP of programming, said, “When Calls the Heart has continued to be a standout amongst our Hallmark catalogue and we’re thrilled that we’re able to bring more stories of faith and community to the homes of millions of viewers.”
“The uplifting nature of the show paired with the love and positivity in the storytelling makes for a very heartwarming television experience, and it’s only going to get bigger and better in Season 11,” she added.
‘This Season is Full of Twists and Turns,’ Says Erin Krakow
Lead star and executive producer Erin Krakow shared her excitement about the show’s renewal and stated, “I am beyond excited for Season 10 of When Calls the Heart to premiere July 30. This season is full of beautiful moments and exciting twists and turns.”
“I can’t wait for the Hearties to see what we’ve created for them! And I’m so thrilled, proud and grateful to Hallmark that the show has been renewed for Season 11. We have so many more stories to tell.”
She continued, “With our amazing cast, crew, and brilliant writers, there will be no shortage of romance and new adventures for the residents of Hope Valley! Having the Hearties continue this journey with us has meant the world and we are thrilled to share what’s in store these next two seasons!”
When Calls the Heart Season 9 Garnered Record Ratings
The renewal of the show is attributed to the audience’s continued interest in the project. Season 9, which aired in 2022, received season-high ratings, averaging 2.9 million every week and becoming the highest-watched scripted series on basic cable in total viewers. The season finale garnered 3.1 million total viewers.
When Calls the Heart is based on Janette Oke’s book of the same name. The series aired its first season in 2014 and has become a fan favorite ever since. Apart from Krakow as Elizabeth Thatcher Thornton, the show initially starred Daniel Lissing as Jack Thornton, Jack Wagner as Bill Avery, and Lori Loughlin as Abigail Stanton.
There have been several changes in the cast over the years. Lissing’s character was killed off in season 5, after which Chris McNally was introduced as Lucas, Elizabeth’s new love interest. Loughlin was written off the series in the sixth season owing to her bribery scandal.
