If you are on TikTok, chances are you would have already seen some videos with creators saying, “One thing about me” and telling an entertaining fact about themselves. The trend that first went viral in April this year has started to gain popularity again, courtesy of Nicki Minaj’s song Super Freaky Girl.
A lot of TikTok stars, including celebrities, have now started following the trend and creating their own versions of “One thing about me”. But what exactly is the trend, and how did it originate? Read on to find out.
“One Thing About Me” Trend Returns with Super Freaky Girl
Following the trend, users create a video in which they share a unique and entertaining fact or story about the. The trend originally had creators giving out information about themselves while the song Summer Background Jazz by Background Jazz Vibes played in the background. The trend got so popular that even Ed Sheeran created a video on it.
Now, creators have come up with an even funnier way to share ‘one thing about them’. Instead of Summer Background Jazz, people are now creating videos to the beat of Nicki Minaj’s Super Freaky Girl.
At one point in the song, the lyrics by Nicki says, “One thing about me, I’m the baddest alive.” Creators are now using this as a prompt to follow the trend, and instead of quoting “ I’m the baddest alive,” they share their stories or facts.
Creator Share Their Unique Facts with the Videos
Following the trend, TikToker Elyza Halpern, who goes by the username @possumgirl, created a video and shared her wild story saying, “One thing about me is that when I was 10, this kid in my class used to glue my butt cheeks together.” She captioned the video, “I luv this trend, pls keep telling me about your awful childhoods via Super Freaky Girl.”
Another creator, @mischmacc, shared a relatable story and sang, “One thing about me is that if you don’t text me, I will reread all our texts just to see what went wrong.” TikTok creator @zach_benson also followed the trend and shared a story about him going to the Warped Tour to see the band Falling In Reverse when he was 14 years old.
How To Do The “One Thing About Me” Trend
If you, too, want to create a video following the trend, just think of a funny or relatable story or fact about yourself that you want to tell. While the trend got wide popularity in April this year, the first “One thing about me” was created way back in January 2021 by the user @bugeater1101. They created the video with light jazz music playing in the background and unknowingly started a trend that gained momentum a year later.
