In a tragic turn of events, rapper Trina’s 17 year old niece was shot and killed in Miami. The incident happened just after midnight on Wednesday, in Northwest 13th Avenue near 62nd Street.
The 47 year old hip-hop star and her family are said to be in great shock and grief following the incident. The victim was lovingly referred to as ‘Baby Suga’ by her family. Read on to know the complete details of the unfortunate incident.
Miami Fire Rescue Pronounced Suga Dead at the Scene
Miami Police and medical officers reached the spot following the incident. They pronounced Suga dead at the scene. It is yet unclear whether the attack was targeted or random. In a statement, Miami Police Officer Kenia Fallat said, “The woman who was pronounced deceased on the scene was there visiting, she didn’t live in that precise area.”
“We don’t know who was the intended target, but definitely, it was a very big scene and we still are trying to work to getting more answers,” the statement continued. Police have been investigating a black Mercedes, which was found about a mile north of the spot. The car has multiple bullet holes, and its side window and back windshield are shattered.
A source close to the deceased’s family has said that she was in the ‘wrong place at the wrong time.’ Suga was a high school student who ‘was excited to start her senior year’ as per her family.
Two other women have also shot in the incident apart from Suga. They were rushed to the hospital and are reported to be stable now. “They are being attended to. Our last update was that they’re stable, and they’re in their mid-20’s,” said Fallat.
Trina Shared a Close Bond with her Niece
Trina apparently had a close relationship with her niece. She had earlier shared a picture of Suga on Instagram and captioned it, “Mine 💙😍😘👑💎♥️ @skinny_girl_suga #minime #youngqueen #niece #sugaplum”
The Look Back At Me rapper’s fans are now mourning the death of her niece. One fan tweeted, “Trina lost her brother, her mother and now her niece . Praying for Da Baddest and her strength today.”
“Praying for Trina. She probably ain’t even recovered from losing her mother and now somebody shot her niece that was like her daughter that s*** is so sad,” wrote another one.
Trina’s Brother was also Shot Dead in Miami in 2013
Nine years ago, Trina’s brother, Wilbrent Bain Jr., was also shot dead in Miami. He was killed in Northwest Miami-Dade near 91st Street after a dispute with a friend, which resulted in gunfire.
Professionally Trina has had a long and successful career as a rapper. Born Katrina Laverne Taylor, she started her career in 1998 with Trick Daddy’s track Nann.
XXL magazine called Trina ‘the most consistent female rapper of all time.’ In 2013, Complex named her hit ‘Pull Over’ as the 27th best rap song by a woman. Trina was also named one of Billboard’s ‘31 Female Rappers Who Changed Hip-Hop’ in 2014.
