The Weeknd is officially the most popular musician on the planet, says Guinness World Records. The singer has earned two world records under his name in the wake of his recent feat of achieving 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
The 33 year old singer artist is now statistically the most popular artist in the world. The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has released five studio albums and has won four Grammy Awards over the years.
The Weeknd Sets Guinness World Records as the Most Popular Artist
On Monday, Guinness World Records announced that The Weeknd had set two new world records after becoming the first artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The singer now has the most monthly listeners on the streaming platform.
Spotify announced the feat last month by tweeting, “It’s official: On February 27, The Weeknd became the first artist in Spotify History to reach 100 Million monthly listeners.” The Save Your Tears singer eventually reached 111.4 million monthly listeners on the platform.

Miley Cyrus is a distant second with 82.4 million listeners, followed by Shakira (81.6 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80.2 million), Rihanna (78.5 million), and Ed Sheeran (77.5 million).
The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights is the Most Streamed Track on Spotify
The singer seems to be leading all the lists on Spotify as his 2020 song, Blinding Lights, has also become the most streamed track on Spotify in history, dethroning Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You, which held the position since 2017. Blinding Lights currently has over 3.47 billion streams.
Another song by The Weeknd, Starboy, is also one of the most-listened songs on the platform. The credit for the singer’s 100 million listeners mark can be partly given to the success of the Die For You remix featuring Ariana Grande, which has gone viral on TikTok.
The original song was launched in 2016, and the remix version has reached the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the seventh chart-buster for both Grande and The Weeknd. Their previous collab, 2021’s Save Your Tears remix, also topped the Billboard charts.
The Singer has Two More Guinness World Records to his Name
This is not the first time The Weekend has set new records. He was previously named in the Guinness World Records in 2016 for Spotify’s most streamed album in 2015 and ‘the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male artist.’
Tesfaye, who released his first album, Kiss Land, in 2013, has won several other accolades in his career, including four Grammy Awards, 20 Billboard Music Awards, six American Music Awards, 2 MTV Video Music Awards, 22 Juno Awards, and a Latin Grammy Award.
The singer has sold over 75 million records worldwide. He holds numerous records on streaming and Billboard charts and has received five Diamond certifications from the RIAA for his songs Earned It, The Hills, Starboy, Can’t Feel My Face, and Blinding Lights.
Additionally, he has achieved the unique feat of debuting in the top three spots on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Blinding Lights has been ranked as the most successful song in the history of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
