Abel Tesfaye, popularly known as ‘The Weeknd’ is ready to make his film debut! The Call Out My Name singer has joined hands with Waves helmer Trey Edward Shults for an untitled film.
For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, the untitled movie will also star the Wednesday alum Jenna Ortega and The Banshees of Inisherin actor Barry Keoghan. Read on to know more details about The Weeknd’s feature acting debut.
The Weeknd is set to make his feature acting debut
Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye is all geared to make his movie debut. The Save Your Tears hitmaker will star in an upcoming film alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. As of this moment, the plot details are being kept under the wraps.
As per a report by Deadline, Trey Edwards Shults will don the director’s cap for the project. The script of the untitled film will be penned down by Shults, Abel, and his producing partner Reza Fahim. Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss are producing with Shultz and Ortega exec producing.
More details about The Weeknd’s forthcoming untitled film
The Weeknd has been working on the untitled film for a while now and in the last few months, he had a chat with Trey Edwards Shults about directing it. Once, he got on board, the two of them along with Fahim started writing the script of the film.
Along with Jenna, Barry, and Shults, Abel has also got together a below-the-line team that consists of the director of photography Chayse Irvin. Composer and producer OPN, aka Daniel Lopatin, is scoring the film alongside The Weeknd.
The forthcoming film will mark The Weeknd’s feature acting debut in a leading role. In the past, the Blinding Lights crooner did have a small cameo in the 2019 movie Uncut Gems.
Abel is repped by CAA, Manager Wassim “Sal” Slaiby & Amir “Cash” Esmailian, and attorney Kenny Meiselas of Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks. Jenna is represented by CAA, Gilbertson Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
On the other hand, Barry is with WME, Entertainment 360, B-Side Management, and Sloane Offer Weber & Dern. Trey Edward is repped by WME and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
What is the HBO series ‘The Idol’ all about?
Apart from his untitled film, the Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated musician is set to star in HBO’s The Idol, alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Dan Levy, and Blackpink’s member Jennie Kim. It also stars Troye Sivan, Suzanna Son, and Jane Adams amongst many others.
Abel has also co-created The Idol with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The HBO’s drama series The Idol narrates the story of a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult named Tedros (essayed by The Weeknd) who enters into a complicated relationship with a rising pop idol Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp).
