Hallmark’s hit family drama The Way Home has been renewed by the channel for a second season. The show, which marks the network’s first original series in nearly seven years, premiered in January this year.
The Way Home tells the story of three generations of women of a family who find their way to each other while learning unknown secrets about their family’s past. The show has consistently garnered huge viewership, becoming the second-most-watched show on Hallmark.
The Way Home Renewed for Season 2 at Hallmark
The renewal was announced on March 2 by Lisa Hamilton Daly, Executive Vice President of Programming at Hallmark Media. “The press and our audience have enthusiastically embraced The Way Home from the first episode making the decision to renew the series an easy one,” she said in her official statement.
“We’re thrilled to be able to continue the journey of the Landry family and can’t wait for fans to see what’s next,” added the executive. However, the release date for the second season has been kept under wraps. Laurie Ferneau, Senior Vice President, Development at Hallmark Media, also released a statement.
“Heather Conkie, Alexandra Clarke and Marly Reed have created a rich, textured story filled with heart and mixed with intrigue that’s proven to be a winning combination. Season two is sure to bring more drama and mystery as the Landry family’s history is revealed,” she said.
The Series has Consistently Received Good Ratings
The renewal of the show is attributed to its huge ratings. The Way Home has been doing good ever since its premiere on January 15, leaving behind the likes of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Bravo’s Real Housewives of Potomac, and HGTV’s Home Town.
The show is currently the most-watched program on Sundays among households and the second-most-watched program overall. The series has especially found a dedicated audience of women and young viewers. The first season of the show is still on air on Hallmark, with the finale scheduled on March 26.
The Way Home Follows Three Generations of Women in the Landry Family
The series focuses on three women of the Landry family: Kat, Alice, and Del, as they try to reconnect with each other and learn about their shared past on the way. The official logline of the series says, “Kat Landry, her 15-year-old daughter Alice and Kat’s estranged mother Del are all strong, willful and independent.”
“More than 20 years prior, life-changing events created a chasm in their family that time has yet to repair. Kat and Del still aren’t on speaking terms. Alice has never met her grandmother and is unaware of the reasons for their fractured family.”
“When the three generations come together under one roof for the first time in more than two decades, a surprising discovery unexpectedly sets the trio on a path toward healing and helps them find their way back to each other,” it reads further.
The Way Home stars Chyler Leigh as Katherine “Kat” Landry Dhawan, Sadie Laflamme-Snow as Alice Dhawan, Andie MacDowell as Delilah “Del” Landry, Alex Hook as Teenage Kat, Evan Williams as Elliot Augustine, David Webster as Teenage Elliot, Jefferson Brown as Colton Landry, Remy Smith as Jacob Landry, and Al Mukadam as Brayden “Brady” Dhawan.
The Way Home Season 1 is being aired Sundays at 9/8c on Hallmark Channel.
