The Upshaws has been able to tickle the audience’s funny bone with its hilarious premise. The Netflix series premiered in 2021 and has ever since garnered huge viewership. The show follows a working-class African American family and their daily-life antics.
After a successful ten-episode first season, the show was renewed for a second installment soon after. The second season was split into two parts, which premiered in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Fans are now wondering if The Upshaws has been renewed for part 4, which will equate to season 3. Read on to find out.
The Upshaws Part 4 Renewal Status
The series will definitely return with a part 4 (read season 3) as it has been renewed by Netflix. The streaming platform announced the renewal in October 2022, four months before the arrival of the second part of season 2.
As of now, the number of episodes in season 3 has not been announced. While the first season comprised ten episodes, the second one featured 16 episodes, split into two parts of eight. It has not been revealed if the third season will also follow the same trend and be released in parts or if all the episodes will be released at once.
The Upshaws Part 4 Potential Release Date
Netflix has also not announced the release date for the next season; however, it is known that production has already begun. On February 2, actor and executive producer Mike Epps posted a picture on Instagram, confirming that work had begun on The Upshaws season 3.
The script title featured in the image also revealed the first episode title as ‘Thera Please’. Since the production has started, we can expect The Upshaws season 3 to hit the screens by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. However, considering that Netflix reached the first three parts in different years, the early 2024 date seems more plausible.
The Upshaws Part 4 Star Cast
The lead cast will most probably reprise their roles in the upcoming season. The show stars Mike Epps as Bernard ‘Bennie’ Upshaw Sr., Kim Fields as Regina Upshaw, Wanda Sykes as Lucretia Turner, Diamond Lyons as Kelvin Upshaw, Khali Spraggins as Aaliyah Upshaw, Page Kennedy as Duck, and Jermelle Simon as Bernard Upshaw Jr.
The rest of the cast includes Gabrielle Dennis as Tasha Lewis, Journey Christine as Maya Upshaw, Mike Estime as Tony, Dayna Dooley as Sheila, Daria Johns as Savannah, Jessica Morris as Amy, Dewayne Perkins as Hector, and Leonard Earl Howze as Davis.
Skyes also serves as the co-creator of the series. Talking about what inspired her to create the series, she said in an interview, “You don’t, you don’t see this family on TV, you know, just a working class family. It’s either we all have arrived. You know, we’re well off or you know, or we’re struggling.”
“But we wanted to do a show that represented how the majority of not just black people but just how all people in America are living… it’s like families, just doing their best just, you know, trying to have a good life and loving each other,” she continued.
The Upshaws seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
