The 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards, which recognize and honor some of the year’s outstanding performances in movie as well as prime time television aired Sunday. The annual awards show was indeed a star-studded affair.
For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, this year, the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place on Sunday, February 26, 2023. Which film was the big winner of the night at the SAG Awards 2023?
Everything Everywhere All at Once led the list of winners from the front at the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards with a total of four wins in its kitty. The cast of Everything Everywhere All at Once an inter-dimensional adventure, won the award for best ensemble at the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday.
Michelle Yeoh earned best actress honors for her work as Evelyn Quan Wang, a dissatisfied and overwhelmed laundromat owner, in Everything Everywhere All at Once. In her award-winning speech, she said, “This is not just for me. This is for every little girl who looks like me.”
Yeoh went on to say that performers of color and actors from underrepresented communities want a “seat at the table.” She concluded by saying, “So many of us need this. We want to be seen. We want to be heard.”
In addition to this, Jamie Lee Curtis nabbed the SAG Award for best supporting actor for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Ke Huy Quan also picked up the award for best supporting male. Both Yeoh and her co-star Ke Huy Quan became the first Asian performers honored in their categories.
Brendan Fraser won the award for best actor at the SAG Awards 2023
At Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, Brendan Fraser was named best actor for The Whale. He played the role of a morbidly obese man in the film. He took to the podium while holding back tears and spoke about the professional highs and lows in a life in film that took him from the A-list in the 1990s and early aughts to a career downturn that left him off the marquee
Fraser said, “I’ve rode that wave lately, and I’ve also had that wave smash me to the ocean floor.” The movie The Whale which stars Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink, Hong Chau, Ty Simpkins, and Samantha Morton is based on Samuel D. Hunter‘s novel of the same name.
‘Abbott Elementary’ bagged the award for best comedy series ensemble
On the other hand, when we talk about the television side, the cast of Abbott Elementary won the SAG award for best comedy series ensemble, meanwhile HBO’s show The White Lotus was named best TV drama series ensemble.
Ozark star Jason Bateman secured the award for best drama series actor and Jennifer Coolidge, accepted the award for best actress in a drama series. In her speech, she thanked Mike White for creating her role and said, “The best gift you can give someone is to change someone’s perspective for the better.”
