Saturday Night Live, also known as NBC’s Saturday Night Live, started as a late-night sketch comedy show way back in 1975 and boasted a rich legacy of talents over these years. As famous comedians like Melissa Villaseñor, Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant, Lindsay Shookus and Kyle Mooney bid goodbye to the longest-running sketch comedy show ahead of the upcoming season, the SNL production team has added some new faces to Season 48.
Today’s tweet from the official SNL account reads: Welcome to the cast, Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker! So yea, the SNL Season 48 is set to premiere on October 1, 2022, with these new cast members, who are set to bring in some fresh air to this beloved show.
SNL’s creator, Lorne Michaels revealed backstage at the Emmys that “he sees this upcoming season as a “transition year.” Michaels cited the reason for many veterans leaving the show is due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But again, as promised, these new talents are set to dazzle SNL fans with their witty comedy.

Michaels stated: “I think people might’ve left earlier, but there was no place to go, and also, we were used to doing it, and we were under pressure to do it. It was difficult, particularly when you’re rehearsing in masks, and it’s all protocols and there’s nothing to do after the show except to go home.”
Meet The New Cast Members…
Before you sit down to enjoy the newest season from October 1, I thought of introducing you to Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker, who are geared up to join the SNL family for Season 48. Here is all you need to know about the next generation of comedy.
1. Marcello Hernandez
One of the new faces of SNL, Marcello Hernandez is a Cuban/Dominican stand-up comedian, actor and writer. He has previously opened up for legendary SNL alums like Gilbert Gottfried and Tim Dillon. You may remember this young boy on Telemundo’s “Acceso Total”.
This year, Marcello was selected as a 2022 Just For Laughs New Face. He also performs tours with Tim Dillon and stand-ups at clubs in New York City. On TikTok, Marcello boasts 344k+ followers and over 27k followers on Instagram. After getting selected for SNL, Marcello shared the big news on Instagram by writing: “Little Cuban Dominican boy from Miami is on SNL…🕺🏼.”
2. Molly Kearney
Molly Kearney likes to be called “they/them” as per their Twitter bio. You may remember them from “A League Of Their Own” on Amazon. They also host their own stand-up event “The Big One” out of Highland Park, LA. Molly came to light when she made fun of Justin Bieber On Instagram. They have around 6k+ followers and keep posting original comedy sketches on IG.
They are currently living in California and might have to move after their selection in SNL. Well, Molly may be a rising star, but the Cleveland-raised comic has registered their name as the first non-binary cast member in SNL’s history.
3. Michael Longfellow
Now, Michael Longfellow doesn’t need much introduction because the comic is a bit more famous than the rest. He has previously appeared on NBC’s “Bring The Funny” hosted by SNL’s Kenan Thompson. Apart from this, Longfellow is also known for “How To Be Broke” and “Get Over It”. He has around 104k followers on Instagram.
Now based in LA, the stand-up and writer helped run the Big Pine Festival, Arizona’s debut comedy festival, which now boasts some of the finest comics from all over the country. He was a runner-up at the “Laughing Skull Comedy Festival” in Atlanta. Apart from this, the bright comedian also did stand-ups on CONAN and has appeared on Hidden America.
4. Devon Walker
Devon Walker is a writer and comic from Texas who has written for Netflix’s “Big Mouth” and Freeform’s “Everything’s Trash”. You may also remember him from Comedy Central’s “Up Next”. He also appeared in “Mini-Mocks” and “G.O.A.T”.
After the big win at the recent Emmy Awards, Saturday Night Live is all geared up with these new additions for the 48th season, which premieres on October 1, 2022. There is no information as to how will host and musical guest for the shows on the following Saturdays i.e. October 8 and October 15.
If you aren’t aware, Lorne Michaels, who also produced “Mean Girl”, started this show in 1975. He previously mentioned that he will be ending the series after Season 50, but it appears that there is much to witness. The show has been on the air for four decades and has won several accolades such as 87 Emmys, two Peabody Awards, and six Writers Guild of America Awards. The show was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in the year 2000.
FYI, except for these new faces, you’d be seeing the oldies like Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, James Austin, Bowen Yang, Kenan Thompson, Cecily Strong and Chris Redd among others. Grab hold of your stomachs, because we’re going to experience a lot of pain as there will be no limit on laughter.
