America will never free itself from racism, and it continues to engulf young children too. An outrageous mother, identified as Jodi on Instagram, is calling out Sesame Place after she said that her two Black daughters were shunned by a character during the character parade in Sesame Place Philadephia. Many celebrities have slammed the theme park, and Kelly Rowland is one of them. Read on to learn her reaction to the incident.
Kelly Rowland Is Disgusted…
American singer-songwriter Kelly Rowland, who rose to fame in the late 90s as a member of “Destiny’s Child”, has reacted to a viral video wherein a mother is calling out Sesame Place for being racist towards her two black children.
The 41-year-old singer posted an Instagram story wherein she can be heard saying: “Had that been me… that whole parade would have been in flames.” With her head cocked to the side, she questioned, “Like, are you serious? You’re not going to speak to my child?” She ended her rant by stating that the young child with the disappointed expression deserved an explanation.
Kelly Rowland has spoken about the incident that has spread like a wildfire and is gaining a lot of attention from netizens who are slamming Sesame Place Philadelphia for the disgusting treatment of black children during the characters’ parade. Rowland has to be open about her struggle as a dark-skinned girl.
What Happened At Sesame Park?
A mother, identified as Jodi, posted a video of her two black children being ignored by the characters at Sesame Park. In the video, you can see that the Rosita character approached the young siblings while passing out high-fives at everyone. However, she ignored the two black girls who stood on the street while their arms outstretched.
However, the character went on to hug a white girl as it ignored the two young girls. . She shared footage and her frustrations on Instagram (July 17). “I’m going to keep posting this because this had me hot. We were on our way out of Sesame Place and the kids wanted to stop to see the characters. THIS DISGUSTING person blatantly told our kids NO then proceeded to hug the little white girl next to us!” she wrote.
Jodi continued, “Then when I went to complain about it, they looking at me like I’m crazy. I asked the lady who the character was and I wanted to see a supervisor and she told me SHE DIDNT KNOW!!”
The angry mother also stated that she will never step again into Sesame Palace ever again. She conveyed that everyone should repost the incident and asked Sesame Place to return her money. She concluded her post by saying: “Actually run me my money back 😡🤬so mad I stopped the video but it got me so mad when he blatantly told them no.”
Many people took to her comment section to support her. One black woman wrote, “Fuckin heartbreaking! I’m so sorry sis! This is NOT okay.” Another woman shared that a similar incident happened with her at Sesame Place, and wrote: “Same thing happened to us when we went, I thought I was just being sensitive or something but that’s real smh.”
A mother commented, “That’s really fuck up and I’m supposed to be taking my daughter there at the ending of this month that’s a dub we will find a theme park to go that had me super mad Jodi I’m sorry that happened to you.” One person commented: @sesamestreet needs to hold @sesameplace accountable and take action!”.
Sesame Place Issues A Defensive Apology
The video quickly went viral as people expressed outrage at the incident. The “Simply Deep” star felt compelled to call on Sesame Place to issue an apology. Well, Sesame did issue an apology but it falls short before what happened to the two children. Hours after Kelly Rowland shared her video Sesame Place issued a statement.
Sesame Place claimed: “The Rosita performer did not intentionally ignore the girls and is devastated about the misunderstanding.” Not only this but according to them, the “no” hand gesture seen several times in the video was not directed to any specific person, rather it was a response to multiple requests from someone in the crowd who asked Rosita to hold their child for a photo which is not permitted.”
In the end, they confirmed that they’d spoken to the family to apologize and invited them to return for a special meet-and-greet. However, what they’ve termed as an apology appears to be a defensive statement wherein the theme park has not taken responsibility for what happened with the young girls. Well, at least, people aren’t convinced.
After their statement, one Instagram user commented, “That’s a lie !! You can clearly see the character shake the hands of other little girls that were similar heights to the little African American girls. That employee needs to be fired and if said employee is “devastated” why haven’t they made a public apology. That family needs a refund and a year of free admission!”
If you don’t know, this is not the first time that racist incidents have taken place at Sesame Place. Previously, in 2019, a white woman was recorded using racist language, cursing at and raising her middle finger toward a Black woman while they all waited in line for a ride at Sesame Place.
The video was recorded and posted to Instagram by Zaafirah Moore, who said the white woman told her to “go back where you came from.” Moore, 26, was born and raised in West Philadelphia. In the video, the irate white woman says “go f— yourself” to Moore, calls her a “b—-” and thrusts her middle finger in Moore’s face before she attempts to take the camera from Moore.
However, Moore confirmed that the Sesame Place staff eventually intervened and escorted the white woman out of the park. But again, she also claimed that she saw Sesame Place staff give the white woman what looked like tickets that she could return to the park on another day. Just like this incident, Sesame Park denied giving any tickets to a white woman. What do you think of the incident? Will racism ever end in America?
