Jesus Revolution, a new film directed by Jon Erwin, hit the theaters on February 24. The faith-based drama is based on the book of the same name by Pastor Greg Laurie. The film follows Laurie and pastor Chuck Smith’s involvement in the Jesus movement in California in the late 1960s.
The film’s setting in a different era makes up for an aesthetic watch as it features some impressive visuals. Audiences are now wondering where the filming of Jesus Revolution took place. Read on to find out.
Jesus Revolution Filming Locations
The shooting of the film took place majorly in Alabama and California. While the premise is set in California, most of the scenes were shot in various places in Alabama. The filming commenced in March 2022 and only took about six weeks to complete. Now let’s have a detailed look at all the locations where Jesus Revolution was filmed:
Baldwin County, Alabama
A few sequences of Jesus Revolution were also shot in Baldwin County. The city of Fairhope in the county served as a backdrop for some important scenes. The production team was at Fairhope K-1 Center on South Church Street, Fairhope Municipal Pier, North Beach Park, and County Road 13.
Meanwhile, the rest city of the Gulf Shores doubled as Southern Californian beaches in the film. Baldwin County is the largest county in Alabama. It was also the fastest-growing county in the state in the previous decade. Films like Get Out, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Under Siege, and Hush have also been shot in Baldwin County.
Mobile County, Alabama
The film was extensively shot in Mobile County, the second most-populous county in Alabama. The cast and crew were seen filming some key scenes at the Battleship Causeway. The USS Alabama battleship is docked at the same location. Mobile County also served as a filming location for some outdoor sequences.
Earlier, a few films, including Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Under Siege, The Night Shift, Extraction, and Vice, were also shot in Mobile. The county is known for its heritage and culture dating back to the 16th century.
Southern California, California
Since Jesus Revolution is set in California, a number of places in the southern region of the state were utilized as filming locations. The cast was spotted at Pirates Cove Beach in the city of Newport Beach to tape some scenes in March 2022. Balboa Island in the city also served as a backdrop for the film.
The production team set up a camp at Harvest Christian Fellowship, which is situated at 17600 Gillette Avenue in Orange County’s Irvine. Southern California is one of the largest economic regions in the country. It is known for theme parks, business centers, and water parks, including Downtown Los Angeles, Dry Town Water Park, and Downtown Riverside.
Southern California has also served as a filming location for a number of films in the past, including Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, Die Hard, The Social Network, Forrest Gump, Legally Blonde, and The Girl Next Door.
