Wayne Shorter, the prolific saxophonist considered one of America’s greatest jazz composers and among the genre’s leading risk-takers, has left for the heavenly abode. According to various media outlets, Wayne passed away at the age of 89 on March 2, 2023, Thursday in Los Angeles.
Shorter’s publicist Alisse Kingsley confirmed the unfortunate news of his death to AFP. As of this moment, the exact cause behind the death of the Jazz musician is not known.
Wayne Shorter’s music career explored
Wayne Shorter was an American jazz saxophonist and composer who shot to fame in the late 1950s as a member of and eventually primary composer for, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. In the 1960s, he decided to join Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet. Later on, down the lane, he co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report.
Throughout the course of his music career, the 12-time Grammy winner worked with many great artists like Miles Davis, Carlos Santana and Herbie Hancock. As a band leader, he recorded more than 20 albums.

Wayne’s close pal and collaborator Herbie Hancock mourned the loss of the iconic musician on the microblogging site Twitter. He tweeted, “Wayne Shorter, my best friend, left us with courage in his heart, love and compassion for all, and a seeking spirit for the eternal future. He was ready for his rebirth. As it is with every human being, he is irreplaceable.”
Joni Mitchell took to her Twitter page and wrote, “Rest in peace to longtime Joni friend and collaborator Wayne Shorter. A visionary musician and composer, his contributions to the world of music will always be remembered.”

In a separate tweet, Jack went on to say, “He was a beautiful soul and Lydia and I loved him for that. Sending condolences and love to Carolina, and Wayne’s family. He will be missed but will be remembered always R I P.”
