The news has been a long time coming, but it’s still exciting to hear that “Dune: Part Two” is officially a go. The movie will serve as the second part of Legendary’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel, with Villeneuve returning to direct.
He was previously attached to helm a potential sequel in 2007, but those plans fell apart after he left the project. Now, it looks like we can expect more of the same from Villeneuve and company when it comes to adapting this iconic sci-fi novel into an epic science fiction film.
In fact, it sounds like they want a sequel that’s bigger than even the first one! With premiere dates being pushed over and over, it definitely punched some of us in our guts with the thought of never watching the rest of the story.
But with a solid date in our hands and the news of star cast filming, it looks like this time it’s going to be final.
Dune part 2 is officially coming in 2023 with new characters joining the Dune world and the plot going beyond the original book. Here’s what we know so far about Dune Part 2.
Dune Part 2 Filming Officially Underway
So, building the excitement from the very first thing that will eventually hit your mind. Yes, the filming has begun for the next film.
On July 18th, Warner Bros officially announced that the filming is already underway for the second half.
A little pre shoot happened with a bunch of actors in Italy around July before the official filming that began and is currently in process in Budapest, Hungary. It is the same place where part one was shot.
When Is The Second Part Releasing?
This question has haunted us enough in the past with all the pushed premiere dates to a point it felt like a cancellation.
But, it’s all good in the Arrakis world as the film recently announced a fresh release date for 2023. The film has been pushed further to November 17th, 2023.
The delay in the release date may be disappointing to some, but considering how eagerly anticipated a new Dune film is and how well it was received last time—the delay will likely go down more easily than one might think.
The sci-fi drama will continue the story of Paul Atreides and his journey home. His life was put in danger after he escaped a coup that nearly killed him, but now he has to face another challenge: an assassination attempt on his family’s rule.
The upcoming film, Dune Part 2 will cover Paul Atreides’ encounter with Stilgar and his Fremen tribe—up until they go to war against the Harkonnen soldiers ruling over Arrakis.
