Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke has suffered minor injuries after being involved in a car crash in Malibu, California. The 97 year old comedian reportedly rammed his car into a gate last Wednesday morning after losing control of the vehicle.
Fortunately, the crash did not cause any major injury, and Dyke is said to be fine now as he recovers at home. The Golden Globe-winning actor is known for his roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Bye-Bye Birdie and Mary Poppins. Read on to know more about the actor’s recent accident.
Dick Van Dyke Suffers Minor Injuries in Car Crash
The actor was driving his 2018 Lexus LS 500 across Malibu on the morning of March 15, where the recent rain had drenched the streets. He reportedly lost control of the driving wheel and crashed into a gate. The police then responded to the call of a singer-car accident and reached the spot to find the actor bruised and blooded from minor injuries.
As per reports from the police, Dyke might have suffered a concussion and was bleeding from his nose and mouth. The paramedics treated the actor on the spot, and he was not taken to a hospital. A friend is said to have driven him home, where he is recovering now.
Law enforcement agencies have revealed that there was no involvement of drugs or alcohol in the accident. However, the police have submitted documents to the Department of Motor Vehicles, asking the actor to retake his driving test, partially due to his old age. The actor’s reps have not commented on the incident yet.
The Actor has been Involved in Several Accidents Earlier
This is not the first time that Dyke has been involved in a car accident. In 2013, his car burned down on a California freeway. The actor was rescued from the scene without any major injury. He later joked about the accident by posting a picture of the burnt car with the caption, “Used Jag for sale REAL CHEAP!!”
Earlier in 2010, he revealed an incident where he had fallen asleep on a surfboard and drifted far into the sea. In an interview with Craig Ferguson, Dyke shared that a group of friendly porpoises helped push the surfboard back to shore.
Social media now has mixed reactions to the actor’s recent car crash. While some are praying for his quick recovery, others are questioning whether people his age should be allowed to drive anymore.
Dyke Has Had a Seven-Decade-Long Career
Dyke has been working in the entertainment industry since the 1950s. He shot to fame by playing the role of Rob Petrie on the CBS sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show, which aired from 1961 to 1966. He then appeared in a number of children’s films and got wide recognition as a comic actor.
Over the years, he has won several accolades, including a Golden Globe, a Tony and five Emmys awards. Just last month, he appeared on the Fox singing competition The Masked Singer, becoming the oldest-ever contestant on the show.
