Talking about her pregnancy journey in a new interview, Da Brat said, “It’s been quite a journey. There’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.” She further revealed that they thought of embracing parenthood as a joke at first but went with the idea later on.
“It started as a joke; we were like, ‘We’re extending our family!’ But then we got a huge response. It was like, ‘Oh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!’” she added.
Da Brat further revealed, “I never thought I was going to have kids. I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me.”
Da Brat and Jesseca Got Married in February 2022
Da Brat got married to Judy, who is the CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products, on February 2 last year. At the time, the executive was in the process of launching a new line inspired by Da Brat’s iconic braids and hairstyles. Judy is already a mother to three children from a previous relationship.
Da Brat says her thoughts on having kids changed when she met her wife. “I started looking at life so differently. I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.” She also said that she was not very keen on carrying the child.
“I was like, nothing’s gonna come out of me!,” Da Brat expressed, and Judy added, “We had a little tug-o-war in the beginning…but I felt like she should have the experience. She is so nurturing.”
The Couple Suffered a Miscarriage Earlier
Opening up about the difficult phase in her life, Da Brat said, “I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted. I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me. Luckily, we still had quite a few of her eggs left.”
Further talking about her experience so far, the rapper stated, “It’s just a blessing. I’m excited! I don’t have any cravings or nausea,” she adds, “but I’m always sleepy. It’s crazy! Everything makes me cry. If someone wins American Idol, I cry. I’m like, I’m tougher than that!”
Da Brat and Judy’s journey to parenthood can be watched on Brat Loves Judy Season 3, which is set to premiere on April 27 at 9 pm ET on WeTV.
