Constance Wu is going to be a mother again! The actress is expecting her second child with boyfriend Ryan Kattner, she announced on social media on Tuesday. The 40 year old star welcomed her first baby, a daughter, in 2020 after keeping her pregnancy a secret.
Wu first sparked rumors of her second pregnancy last week when she was spotted walking with a baby bump in a Los Angeles park. Read on to know more about her journey to motherhood.
Constance Wu Expecting Second Child with Boyfriend Ryan Kattner
The Hustlers actress showed off her bare baby bump in her Instagram story on February 2 and wrote, “Bun in the oven. Filipinese baby #2 coming soon.” Just a week ago, Wu was clicked with her baby bump as she strolled across LA.
She wore a maroon and white striped shirt with black sweats and sneakers and a cap for her outing. The actress previously gave birth to a daughter in August 2020. However, she and her boyfriend, Kattner, lead of the band Man Man, have decided to keep their child away from the spotlight.
The Actress Kept her First Pregnancy a Secret
Neither her pregnancy nor the birth of her first baby was announced by Wu initially. In December 2020, she finally decided to break the news to the public. “I had a beautiful baby girl in August. She’s the best, she’s the best. She has a full head of hair,” she said during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in May 2021.
She further revealed that her baby has a ‘blue butt,’ known as congenital melanocytosis, a bluish birthmark that appears on some babies. “Apparently, it happens in a lot of Asian babies, and my boyfriend and I are both Asian. He actually wrote a song about her blue butt. So, that will be on his next album,” Wu joked.
In a separate interview, she opened up about her experience as a working mother and said that her Terminal List co-star Chris Pratt helped her through the phase. “My first day on set was hard. I missed my baby. It was the hardest day at work because it was so emotional, something so many moms go through on their first day back at work,” she explained.
“Talk about someone who really understood what I was going through — Chris was so supportive and kind and caring on set. I’m really fortunate to have had him as my partner,” the Velma star continued.
Constance Wu Talked About Motherhood in her Memoir
In October 2022, Wu released her memoir Making a Scene, in which she talked about her journey to motherhood in detail. She also revealed that the birth of her baby helped her reconcile with her own mother, with whom she had been estranged for five years.
“My little sister (who’s always been better with my mom) helped us navigate the slow road to reconciliation. We took it day by day. Mom still lives in Virginia, and this was during the height of the COVID pandemic, so it was all via Zooms and FaceTime calls. At first there were a lot of emotions. Joy and pride and relief. Apathy or numbness,” Wu revealed.
Congratulations to Constance Wu and Ryan Kattner as they get ready to embrace parenthood once again!
