Celine Dion has canceled the remaining shows of her Courage World Tour owing to her health issues. The legendary singer, who was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome a few months back, announced on Friday that she would not be able to continue with the tour.
The tour met with several delays in the past, owing to the Covid pandemic. Dion kicked off the tour way back in 2019 and performed 52 shows before the pandemic hit in March 2020. The next leg of the tour was supposed to begin in the Netherlands in August this year.
Celine Dion Cancels Courage World Tour
The 55-year-old singer made the announcement on social media on May 26th. She wrote, “It is with tremendous disappointment that we have to announce today the cancellation of the Courage World Tour.”
Dion further apologized to her fans and wrote, “I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%.”
“It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”
Tickets will be Refunded Through the Original Point of Sale
Fans who purchased the tickets for the now-canceled shows need to contact the original point of purchase for refunds. “Tickets purchased for the forty-two canceled dates will be refunded via the original point of sale. For further ticket inquiries or options, ticketholders should reach out to their original point of purchase,” wrote Dion.
A total of 42 shows were left in the Courage World Tour, which has now been shut. The My Heart Will Go On singer was set to begin the European leg on August 26th in Amsterdam, and the tour was scheduled to be wrapped up in London in April 2024.
Dion was Diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome in December 2022
The singer’s ill health is revealed to be the reason behind her not getting back on stage. Dion announced her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome (SPS) in December last year. SPS is defined as a condition ‘similar to an autoimmune disease and it makes people become rigid, with a heightened sensitivity to noise and touch that can also lead to muscle spasm’.
“Recently I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the Stiff Person Syndrome which affects 1 in a million people. While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all the spasms I’ve been having,” Dion announced in an emotional video at the time.
“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to. I always give 100 percent when I do my shows, but my condition is not allowing me to give that to you right now,” she added.
We wish good health to Celine Dion and hope to see her back on stage soon! Stay tuned for more news and updates.
