Blood & Treasure Canceled After Two Seasons at Paramount+

February 18, 2023 by Bunny Baba

It’s a wrap for Blood & Treasure after two glorious seasons. The action-adventure series, which aired its second season in 2022 after a gap of three years, will not be returning with a third season.

Blood & Treasure followed antiquities expert Danny McNamara and art thief Lexi Vaziri teaming up to go against a ruthless terrorist. The show premiered on CBS in May 2019 and moved to the streaming platform Paramount+ for its second season.

Blood & Treasure Canceled After Season 2

The announcement was made on February 17. While the news disappointed many fans, others were satisfied that the show ended on a happy note. In the second season finale, Danny’s petition led to Dwayne Coleman’s being pardoned for his illegal actions and his reunion with his family.

The first season of the series met with impressive ratings, which led to its renewal for season 2 soon. However, the filming met with multiple delays owing to the pandemic, and the second installment could not see the light until 2022.

At the time of the season 2 premiere, co-creator Matthew Federman had said, “We have a kind of ‘never say never’ and ‘never say die’ [attitude]. It’s like, who knows? If the numbers are really good [on Paramount+], we could always bring the band back together. We have a ton of stories we can tell in this world.”

Showrunners Hinted at the Show’s Cancelation at the End of Season 2

When the second season finale aired in October 2022, Ferderman told fans that he was uncertain about the show’s future. He tweeted, “I don’t know what the future holds but I’m very proud of what we got to do with this show, shooting our little action/adventure on four continents and through a pandemic.”

“Thanks to our partners at CBS who trusted us to pull it off and our amazing writers, cast, crew and staff. It was very much the adventure of a lifetime. And thanks to everyone who watched and spread the word,” he added.

Co-creator Stephen Scaia had expressed her contentment with pulling off season 2. “The miracle for me was being able to finish that second season during a pandemic, traveling the world, shooting on three different continents over however many months, including one government-mandated break, and everyone made it through healthy,” he said.

The Show Starred Matt Barr and Sofia Pernas in the Lead

Matt Barr and Sofia Pernas got their big break with the roles of Danny McNamara and Lexi Vaziri respectively, in the series. Blood & Treasure also starred James Callis as Simon Hardwick, Michael James Shaw as Dwayne Coleman, Mark Gagliardi as Father Chuck, Michelle Lee as Violet, Victoria Diamond as Kate Reece, and Byron Mann as Vince Tran.

The official synopsis of the show read, “A brilliant antiquities expert and a cunning art thief team up to catch a ruthless terrorist who funds his attacks through stolen treasure. As they crisscross the globe hunting their target, they unexpectedly find themselves in the center of a 2,000-year-old battle for the cradle of civilization.”

Blood & Treasure seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Paramount+. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
