Met Gala just would not be the same this year as Blake Lively is giving the event a miss. The actress, who was the most-talked-about celeb on the red carpet last year, has confirmed that she would not be attending the fundraising event on May 1st.
Lively has been a regular at the Gala ever since her debut in 2008, and her absence from the fashion event has surely disappointed her fans. Read on to know what else the 35-year-old had to say about skipping Met Gala this year.
Blake Lively Confirms Not Attending Met Gala 2023
The Gossip Girl actress appeared on the red carpet during the grand re-opening of the Tiffany & Co. Fifth Avenue in New York City on Thursday. She spoke to the media at the event, and when one of the reporters asked her if fans will get to see her at Met Gala this year, she replied, “You will not.”
Lively then confirmed that she will instead be catching the action on television. “I will be watching,” she told the media. When a reporter complimented her on her 2022 Met Gala look, the actress joked, “Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday.”
In the past editions of the gala, Lively has consistently impressed fans and fashion critics with her looks. Since 2012, she has been appearing on the red carpet with her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
The actress made head turns at the event with an Atelier Versace gown last year. Her strapless copper gown was inspired by the Statue of Liberty and featured a large bow. However, fans, media, and even Reynolds were left awestruck when the bow transformed into a teal-colored train.
Fans Disappointed with the Development
As expected, fans are highly disappointed with the news and are expressing their thoughts on social media. “we lost, now who’s going to carry met gala this year,” tweeted a fan, while another wrote, “Now that she’s not attending nobody is gonna care about this.”
A fan also commented, “if blake lively is not attending the met gala this year what’s the point of having one ? cancel it idc,” and another tweeted, “First Vanessa Hudgens not attending Coachella, now Blake Lively not attending Met Gala. Whose gonna mother the most renowned American events now?”
This Year’s Met Gala is Themed After Designer Karl Lagerfeld
The theme for Met Gala 2023 is Met Gala is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ to honor the legendary designer who passed away in 2019 at the age of 85. “At its heart, the exhibition will look at the evolution of Karl’s two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional garments,” Met’s curator Andrew Bolton explained.
“We could not do a traditional retrospective. For one thing, I think Karl would have hated that,” he added. The event will be chaired by Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, and Roger Federer.
As for who will be attending the event, sources say that Kendall Jenner, Liu Wen, Gigi Hadid, Anok Yai, Shalom Harlow, Adut Akech, Natalia Vodianova, Devon Aoki, Naomi Campbell, and Amber Valletta will most probably be seen gracing the red carpet.
