Professional skateboarder and actor Bam Margera has surrendered to the police after an arrest warrant was issued against him earlier this week. The 43-year-old has been accused of assault by his brother, musician Jess Margera.
The victim has reportedly suffered minor injuries. Bam, who is one of the creators of MTV’s Jackass, has faced legal troubles in the past. He has also struggled with alcoholism and has been in and out of rehab in the last few years.
Bam Margera Surrenders to Police After Arrest Warrant
The stunt performer turned himself in to Pennsylvania State Police in Avondale on Thursday. He was presented in court and his unsecured bail has been set at $50,000. He will have his next court hearing on May 25th. The authorities had issued an arrest warrant against him on Monday, after a complaint by his brother.
The police responded to a report of a disturbance at a Chester County residence at 11 am on April 23rd. As per legal documents, Margera had a physical altercation with Jess and assaulted him. The victim says that he was sleeping when his brother started banging and kicking his door.
He then found a note outside with the message, “I will officially f— you up,” and saw his brother urinating in a kitchen sink. “I’ll kill you. I’ll put a bullet in your head,” Bam alleged said to his brother. When the police reached the scene, ‘Margera fled into a wooded area,’ says the document.
Margera has Pleaded Not Guilty
Bam’s attorney, Michael van der Veen, has revealed that his client has pleaded not guilty. “Families have disputes all the time. Every family has disputes. This isn’t a dispute that should play out in the courts or the media,” he said. Bam is now accused of ‘simple assault, harassment and terroristic threats with the intent to terrorize another.’
This is not the first time that the reality star has been arrested. Less than two months ago, he was charged with domestic assault of a woman and was taken into custody. He then paid the bail amount of $50,000 and was released from prison.
Earlier in September 2021, Margera was taken to a rehab facility by police in Tampa Bay, after he was found to be ‘out of control’ at a hotel. Owing to alcoholism, the reality star was fired from the fourth installment of Jackass, titled Jackass Forever, as he was supposed to stay sober during the production as per his contract.
Margera Filed Lawsuit Against Jackass Producers Last Year
In August 2022, Margera filed a lawsuit against Paramount, his co-star Johnny Knoxville, director Jeffrey Tremaine, and producer Spike Jonze, accusing them of wrongfully firing him from the project. “Defendants knew full well that Margera had to take Adderall to treat his attention deficit disorder. He had been on this medication for several years,” said the lawsuit.
The suit was eventually settled. More recently, Margera made news after being hospitalized due to pneumonia. “Basically, I was pronounced dead on December 8. I did not know that I had gnarly COVID and my body was shutting down,” he revealed in January this year.
“I went into four seizures, each one lasting 10 to 20 minutes. On the fourth one, I bit my tongue so hard it was nearly fallen off. It got so swollen and puffy it wouldn’t fit in my mouth. I was drinking the infected blood which gave me pneumonia as well,” he added.
