This 2018 movie was expected to have a sequel until Alicia Vikander revealed what was going on with the movie. Misha Green confirmed on May 14, 2021, via her official Twitter account, that the first draught of the script, titled Tomb Raider: Obsidian, had been finalized.
A lot of things happened, and there was a lot of confusion about the movie. Let’s look into what Alicia said about it.

Alicia Vikander Shed Some Light On The Sequel
The movie has been in development since 2019. That’s definitely since a long time. Alicia stated last year, “It’s not greenlit, but the script is in the making, and I think everyone is excited and I would love to revisit Lara again.” That gave spectators hope.
The new update Alicia shared actually confused spectators about her appearance. The acquisition of MGM by Amazon has complicated matters. But what’s exactly happening?
Vikander explained, “With the MGM and Amazon buyout, I have no clue. Now it’s a kind of politics. I think Misha and I have been ready, so it’s kind of in somebody else’s hands, to be honest. I’ve been excited to show the world. I love what she’s done with Lovecraft Country.”
What did Alicia mean when she said politics? According to her, it’s most likely behind-the-scenes politics at work. MGM, the studio behind the first Tomb Raider, was purchased by Amazon in March of this year for a whopping $8.5 billion.
But it’s clearly evident and Alicia & Misha are all in for the sequel.
What Did Alicia Vikander Say Before?
Well, before this new update Alicia said something regarding the sequel and confirmed that Misha is writing a draft.
“I hope we go and make another movie. Because of the pandemic, we had plans of shooting this film, and now it’s been one and a half years, but Misha Green is on board, and she’s writing a draft right now.
It’s pretty amazing — we’re, like, the same age! I was like, ‘Oh, I’m just now on a Zoom with an extremely talented woman that I think has done some incredible work.’ It would be so amazing if we get to go and do this very big-ass film together, going to kick some ass in front of the camera and behind the camera, you know?”
Green responded to a supporter inquiry about the status of the movie on her Twitter account on September 23, 2021, implying that she was still scheduled to direct her own script.
Nope. I’ve been a fan of Tomb Raider since I first played the games back when Playstations were grey. And writing is the house of my best accomplishments. I’m saving all my nerves for directing it! 😊 https://t.co/gocSVo0bUj
